brooklyn, ny |

A 3-story, artist’s workshop on a corner site in a gritty waterfront area in Brooklyn. A multi-media artist requested a workspace to produce and display his art. The new building references the garage previously occupying the site and more importantly the neighborhood vernacular of industrial warehouses. The client requested a building with a small living component that felt secure in a marginal neighborhood still in flux. The building is a bold volume with security gates and translucent glass facing the street. An open space running the length of the building creates an exterior workspace and garden. The top floor is a live/work studio with views to the harbor.
